The Moment

Why Ohio, Why Now

Two shifts are happening at the same time, and they're connected. Encryption that protects today's data is approaching its expiration date, and some attackers are already stockpiling encrypted information now, betting they'll be able to unlock it once quantum computers catch up. Meanwhile, more of the decisions running through government, business, and daily life are being made or assisted by AI, which only works if the data behind it can be trusted. The fix for both is the same: infrastructure built to stay secure against tomorrow's computers, and to prove what's real when so much can be generated or faked.

Ohio is already positioned to lead this shift. For the first time in the twenty-year history of CNBC's rankings, Ohio is the number one state for business in America, driven by the best-graded infrastructure in the country. Federal deadlines now require government agencies and infrastructure operators to have quantum-safe protections in place within 5 years, and migration plans due this October. Ohio doesn't have to choose between leading the nation and being ready for what's next.

The SMART Layer

Four commitments. One standard.

S

Secure

Quantum-resistant protection built for federal timelines.

M

Modular

Fits into what organizations already have or need.

A

Adaptive

Keeps working as circumstances and requirements change.

R

Responsible

Built for transparency, auditability, and public trust.

T

Technology

The SMART standard for future-proof innovation.

In a world of rapidly advancing in technology, increasingly severe cyber attacks, and eroding trust, SMARTOhio stands as the pathway for building resilient solutions, today, for tomorrow's challenges.

How We Help

Three pillars, all practical.

01

Funding Catalyst

Find and navigate real funding pathways, including the federal Technology Modernization Fund, CISA's PQC Initiative, and Ohio state resources through DAS, InnovateOhio, and JobsOhio.

02

Use Cases

Specific, realistic scenarios across Ohio's key sectors, from statehouse to shop floor to farm gate.

03

Ready Implementation

The technology is deployable now, with regulatory compliance and interoperability built-in.

Use Cases

Where verifiable infrastructure earns its keep in Ohio.

Lead Use Case

State & Local Government Modernization

Legacy systems face quantum risk, and grant applications for upgrades are complex. This technology enables protected records and communications, transparent audit trails, and secure information sharing across agencies, strengthening both compliance and grant applications.

Manufacturing & Smart Supply Chains

Ohio manufacturers need resilient, traceable operations. This technology secures industrial systems, verifies parts and quality data end to end, and integrates with existing factory systems without a costly overhaul.

Agriculture, Food Systems & Traceability

Precision agriculture and food supply chains depend on trustworthy data from farm to table. This technology gives Ohio's ag sector secure, verifiable traceability and analytics built on infrastructure that scales with existing operations.

Featured Use Case

Energy & Utilities

Ohio's power grid, water systems, and pipelines run on commands that have to be trusted instantly, with no room for a forged instruction to pass as real. This technology authenticates every command and reading across the grid, keeps operations running if part of the network is compromised, and creates a verified record for regulators and operators alike.

Economic Development & Asset Innovation

Public institutions need auditable systems for grant compliance and reporting today, and a secure foundation for what's ahead, including asset tokenization for real estate and infrastructure liquidity as those markets mature.

Public Safety & Emergency Response

Coordinated response depends on trusted communication across agencies, especially under pressure. This technology authenticates emergency communications, secures multi-agency coordination, and keeps a verified record of who knew what and when, supporting both response and after-action review.

Academic & Research

Ohio's universities and research institutions need results that can be trusted and reproduced. This technology timestamps datasets, verifies computational results, and proves what was known and when, supporting both grant compliance and scientific integrity.

About & Transparency

Open about who we are and why we're here.

SMARTOhio began in 2025 and is led by John Zuccaro, Chief Sales Officer of Intrana Corporation, to help Ohio amplify its business leadership with a genuinely future-proof technology foundation.

Mr. Zuccaro was born and raised in Hudson, Ohio and earned his bachelor's degree in Information Systems & Supply Chain Management from the Farmer School of Business at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is now taking purposeful action to help accelerate the transition to post-quantum, verifiable infrastructure for his home state.

Intrana supplies the core capabilities. SMARTOhio operates as an open initiative, transparent about that connection from the start, and welcomes inquiries from aligned collaborators and partners. A small independent Advisory Board is planned to strengthen trust and objectivity over time.
